Your market and your competitors
How we find your competitors, and how to change who counts.
Your market shows who you are up against and how you compare. Pick a venue, then open Analytics and choose the Your market tab.
We search for the same kind of business within a set distance of your venue, starting at 5 km. For hotels, restaurants and pubs we use Google's nearby search and keep the most popular, up to 15, closest first. Short lets are found by searching the web for your town instead, so the distance setting does not apply to them.
Each business is scored for how close it is (within 1.5, 3 or 6 km), how well known it is (100 or 300 Google reviews) and how well rated it is (4.3 or higher), and shown as a strong, fair or loose match. You decide which ones to follow. For hotels, the ones you follow are the hotels whose room rates we check.
Owners and admins can change the rules: how far to look, a minimum number of reviews, a minimum rating, a star class range for hotels and a price range. Save and we search again. Suggestions you have not acted on are replaced, and anything you followed or hid stays as it was. Each venue gets 2 searches a month (the first search for a new venue is free), and the page shows how many are left. If you are out, your settings are still saved and used at the next monthly refresh. Following, hiding and changing your mind are always unlimited.
Hotels also see how their rate compares with the median of the hotels they follow, on weekdays and weekends, and how the market has moved against a week ago. We need at least 3 hotels with rates for the same nights, and a rate for your own hotel, before we compare. Rates are for one night for two adults, from what Google Hotels shows, checked on Mondays and Thursdays.
