Big event alerts

How we tell you when a headline event is about to fill hotels near you.

Some events fill hotels far beyond the city that hosts them: a world title fight at a stadium, a big arena concert, a major festival or a grand prix. Hotels that do not know about one tend to leave their rates where they were, and sell out cheap.

We scan the big event cities every day. When something major turns up, our team checks it, and if it is real we alert you by email and in your dashboard bell, with advice for your hotel or rental: check your rate for those nights, raise it early, set a minimum stay, take discounts off sale and tighten your terms. The email goes to the owners and admins of your company.

Each event has a reach, which is how far from the host city we expect it to be felt, usually between 30 and 100 km. You only hear about events whose reach includes your venue, which we work out from your postcode. Every confirmed event within reach is listed in the Major events tab in Plan Ahead, with what to do about it and why. Open one and it takes you to the room rate calendar on its nights, where it also shows as a dot, so you can see your rate against the market on those dates.
